Record-Breaking Swims

*The following swimmers broke Hermitage Swim Team Records.

Hermitage Country Club Swim Team Records are kept as meters records.
Any time swum in yards is convertedIn the event that a converted yards time ties or betters a current record in meters, both times are held as record times until the time is broken in a meters pool.

As Ginter Park is a yards pool, CYT notes a yards time from last night's meet that has been converted to meters.

Amelia Chen, Girls 11-12 50 Fly, 30.73 CYT beats her own meters record of 31.72

Amelia Chen, Girls 11-12 100 IM, 1:10.23 CYT beats her own meters record of 1:12.53

JD Chen, Boys 11-12 50 Breast, 40.09 CYT beats Traylor DuVal's current meters record of 41.12

JD Chen, Boys 11-12 100 IM, 1:15.74 CYT beats Anderson Broughton's current meters record of 1:15.85

Coach's Corner

Thank you Hurricanes, swimmers, parents, and siblings, for helping last night’s meet run as smoothly as possible! I know away meets are difficult, but last night I witnessed some of the best team comradery I’ve seen since being a coach. While I stood at the end of the pool, there was always a group of swimmers standing with me cheering on their teammates, most of them ones they didn’t know. A team is a group forming on one side to compete for a common goal and throughout this year I’ve seen the Hurricanes really embrace the meaning of a team, forming bonds, being their for their teammates, and competing to the best of their ability. Thank you all for making my job so enjoyable.

We are already halfway through the season and that blows my mind! But although we are halfway through, there is still a lot of room to grow and achieve goals, so let’s make the rest of this season count!

~Coach Lillian

Hurricanes of the Week

Anna Grace Broughton

Anna Grace earned a Champs Qualifying time, swam her first 100 IM with the Hurricanes, and was a great cheerleader for her teammates! It is great to see swimmers (like Anna Grace) trying new events and being great supporters of their fellow swimmers. Way to go, Anna Grace!

Will Fisher

Will is always practicing hard to be successful in his events. He is excited with whatever events he is chosen to swim and gives it everything he has. Will stepped up as the relays were shuffled around at the end of the night and swam an excellent 50 FR split in his 15-18 relay. Great job, Will!

Coach's Corner

Congratulations on the first win of the season Hurricanes! We had many super fast swims, lots of new Champs times, and some impressive Breaststroke. All of your hard work in practice has definitely paid off!

Last night was our first night with our new Swim Team Buddies and you all did a fantastic job with that! So many swimmers wished their buddies good luck, cheered them on behind their lanes and told them "good job!" after their races. All the coaches loved seeing the older and younger swimmers interacting with each other and many swimmers making new friends. Let’s continue this awesome team spirit throughout the rest of the season!

I’m really excited to see what we can do at the next meet against Ginter Park! Keep up the good work Hurricanes!

~Coach Ashley

Hurricanes of the Week

Annellice Reid

Annellice is a new to the Hurricanes this year and was a bit nervous about swimming her 50 Butterfly. Those nerves must have helped her swim faster, because she earned herself a Champs qualifying time in the event! Then, she stepped up for her team and swam a leg in the relay shortly after. Annellice is always ready to improve and grow as a swimmer, for herself and to contribute as a member of the team! Great job, Annellice!

JD Chen

JD has been a Hurricane for many seasons, but he isn't getting complacent about it! He came back from being away at the Fork Union Swim Camp to join his team for a meet, spending most of the night cheering on teammates in every age group. JD knows how to have a great time, but also to focus in when it is time for a race. Way to go, JD!

Coach's Corner

It is an honor and a privilege to begin my fourth season coaching this incredible team!

Yesterday's meet did not disappoint! We showed what a strong team we are, qualifying over thirty swimmers for Champs (including many first time swimmers), welcoming new swimmers to our team, and winning tight races.

While the weather wasn't the best I've ever seen, we swam well and had fun! I loved seeing our athletes huddled under umbrellas, cheering on the sidelines, and playing games between events. These moments all show what a great team community we have here at Hermitage.

As we prepare for the rest of the season, your coaches are looking forward to seeing everyone continue to work hard in the pool, improving our strokes, and dropping time!

Great job, Hurricanes!

~Coach Philip

Hurricanes of the Week

Bella Glenn

Bella had a great meet yesterday, dropping time in her events and scoring as a quadruple winner. She always shows up to the pool ready to swim with her best efforts, but also goes out of her way to build relationships with all of her teammates! It is not uncommon to see Bella leading a "parade" of younger swimmers around the deck, they are as enamored with her as she is with them! Way to go, Bella!

Raleigh Harrington

Raleigh is one of our younger and newer swimmers on the team, but he isn't letting that hold him back! He won a 4th place in his freestyle and 2nd place in his backstroke, but even better than that, he qualified for Champs right out of the gate. Raleigh always shows up to practice to work hard and become a better swimmer - his coaches think it seems to work! Congratulations, Raleigh!
