Coach's Corner

After 13 seasons as Hurricane (four of them as a coach), it is with many mixed emotions that I sit here and write my very last ‘Coach’s Corner’. These last four seasons of coaching have been so pivotal, but growing up requires that I close this chapter of my book.

First, I sit here writing with a smile on my face as I reflect on the mountain of memories this team has given me. The Hurricanes have offered me so much: the ability to swim all four strokes confidently, lifelong summertime friends, Monday night plans with hundreds of card games, a support system, the best summer job in the world, and a place to call home. Without the Hurricanes, my summers would have been very empty and, quite frankly, just boring. I encourage every swimmer and rising swimmer to stick with the sport and to never give it up. You will feel such a sense of accomplishment after you finish so many seasons with one team; and you will not forget the friends you made and with whom you spent your summers. Show up to practice and give it your all. Take advice with a smile and the determination to work on it with all you have. Don’t be afraid to meet a new friend because every friendship counts and only makes the team grow stronger.

Next, I sit with tears welling up in my eyes as I prepare to say goodbye to a team full of parents, volunteers, co-workers, and (most importantly) swimmers who have made every summer that much more exciting for me. I wish the best to every swimmer on their journey. I will be back to visit a few times here and there, but my summers will never be the same. I will miss you all and am so excited to finish the strongest season I have witnessed with a bang! So, for the last time, GO HURRICANES!!

Much love,
Coach Lillian

Hurricanes of the Week

Cora Campbell

Cora has had many weeks of consistent practice and has been a top contributor, typically as a triple or quad winner. Cora joined us for the mile swim last week and was supportive of those in the pool with her. Last night, Cora added herself to the team records as a part of the Mixed 11-12 Freestyle Relay! Congratulations, Cora!

Traylor DuVal

Traylor keeps himself busy, especially with a hectic baseball schedule. However, Traylor always gives his best in his swims, even after long weekends and afternoons of baseball. He has also been working behind the scenes by setting up for meets and practices. Last night, Traylor also jumped in to help the coaches fill out our relay teams. Thank you and good job, Traylor!

Coach's Corner

What a great meet Hurricanes! Even though we didn’t win, I still saw lots of awesome swims, good sportsmanship, and swimmers cheering for their teammates. Lots of swimmers tried new events this meet, and it was great to see other swimmers encouraging them so they weren’t so nervous and could really put their all in swimming. We really showed Ridgetop how hard we’ve been working in practice and how that hard work pays off!

Besides swimmers cheering on their teammates, it was great to see all the swimmers cheering us on in the Parents' and Coaches' Relays. Your cheering really made all of us super excited to swim that relay and it showed our team spirit! Thanks to all the parents who swam in the relays with us!

As we enter our last week of the regular season, I want to thank all of you for making this season such a great one! I have really enjoyed coaching you all and watching you all improve and grow closer as a team. Keep up the good work and go Hurricanes!

Coach Ashley

Hurricanes of the Week

Finlay Short

Finlay has been working hard this year to improve her strokes, and it is paying off. She earned a Champs qualifying times in the freestyle and backstroke. Finlay brings a great attitude to each meet and practice and is always full of joy! Congratulations, Finlay!

Mercer Hutcheson

Mercer is a hard-working swimmer and has been willing to try any event the coaches put him in. Last night, he tried his hand at the 100 IM and had a great swim in that event. Then, at the end of the evening, he stepped in to help his team fill a relay spot! We always love Mercer's positive energy and willing spirit as a member of the Hurricane team! Way to go, Mercer!

Coach's Corner

Another great meet to lead us into the holiday weekend! Congratulations to the incredibly strong number of record breaking swimmers and to all of our Hermitage swimmers on another wonderful evening of swimming.

I cannot begin to express how proud I am in my 10th season of summer league swimming to see such hard work, team spirit, and sense of fun from our team. Monday nights are one of my favorite things of each week because we get to show all of the other teams how great it is to be a Hermitage Hurricane!

As we prepare for our last couple meets, don't be afraid to turn it up even more and leave it all in the pool. Let's bring the team spirit and the speed to our last meets and end the season as strong as we started!

~Coach Philip

Hurricanes of the Week

Lynley Whitby

Lynley has been working hard in practice, especially her dive and underwaters. It paid off last night with a triple winner designation and an X time in the 25 FR. Lynley showed us how the hard work of practice pays off in the pool! Way to go, Lynley!

Wyatt Bradshaw

Wyatt is all smiles and ready to go at our swim meets! But under that smile is a fierce competitor. Wyatt swam his way to a quadruple winner designation last night. Throughout the meet, Wyatt also seeks to share his energy with others through cheering and support. Great job, Wyatt!
